Recorder

Discover the joy and benefits of learning to play the recorder, often the first instrument many of us are introduced to at school. The recorder is an ideal instrument for beginners and seasoned musicians alike, offering a simple yet fundamental introduction to music. Learning to play the recorder enhances your cognitive abilities, improves your coordination and fosters a deep appreciation for musical theory and practice. Its portability and ease of use make it perfect for all ages, allowing you to play anywhere! Importantly mastering the recorder can serve as a stepping stone to other woodwind instruments, expanding musical horizons and sowing the seeds for a versatile musical career! Start your musical journey with the recorder and experience the countless rewards of this timeless instrument.

Saxophone

The saxophone is a hugely versatile instrument and one that people can come to at any age. The saxophone is just as happy in a rock band as it is in a jazz, soul or funk band. In fact, there are very few types of music the mighty saxophone isn’t at home with and it is because of this that saxophone lessons are so popular.

Flute

Flute lessons are tailored to meet the needs and requirements of you or your child, from beginners to advanced players. The flute is a beautiful and flexible instrument.

We offer any or all of the following in flute lessons:

  • Composition and improvisation

  • Technique

  • Music theory

  • Sight-reading and notation

  • Aural training

  • Music history

  • Listening

  • Preparation for performances and ABRSM exams

Frequently asked questions

How do flute, recorder and saxophone lessons work?

The first lesson is very much geared around the teacher getting to know the student and what level and type of tuition they prefer or need. From there they will recommend the books and support needed to move forward. Once the tuition is ongoing, each lesson will be tailored to the pupil. In some cases, this means shorter, more fun-focused teaching and for others it may mean practice time or playing along with other instruments and learning music theory.

Do you have to own a recorder, flute or saxophone?

Don’t worry! We can recommend the best places to hire instruments (although the recorder is an affordable instrument which is one of the reasons it is a great instrument to start on!).  Some parents prefer to hire an instrument initially until they are sure that their child is ready to commit fully to the instrument. At this point, we can offer help in choosing your first flute or saxophone.

How will I know how my child’s music lessons are progressing?

Our teachers are very happy to offer ongoing feedback on the progress of a child. As well as this we welcome contact and feedback from parents on how they feel the tuition is going. We also use a practice diary system where notes can be made on progress of learning challenges.

How long are flute, saxophone or recorder lessons?

The length of lessons on either the flute, saxophone or recorder vary depending on the age of the pupil.
