Frequently asked questions

How do I know when my child is old enough to learn the drums?

We are able to teach children as young as 4 years old but it can depend on how long any child is able to concentrate. Music lessons for younger pupils are only 20 minutes long but this increases as their attention span does. The majority of lessons for very young pupils involve more games and challenges than a pure focus on music tuition. If you would like to have a chat about how ready your child is then get in touch.

How do the lessons work?

The first lesson is very much about the teacher getting to know the pupil and understanding what level they are at, their aims and preferences, and what kind of lesson will suit them best. The teacher will then choose the best learning materials and lesson format for that particular pupil. The focus is always on enjoyment; all Discover & Be music and academic lessons are about learning in a fun, positive and constructive environment.

How long are drum lessons and how much do they cost?

  • 30 minutes (standard lesson length for primary aged children)

  • 45 minutes (optional for more advanced pupils)

  • 1 hour (standard lesson length for secondary aged children and adults)

Music lessons run in term-time only and fees are payable half-termly in advance. Fees vary depending on the length and location of the lesson; get in touch to find out more.

How do I know which music books to buy?

The teacher will recommend the books that best suit the pupil. They will then agree the purchase with the parent or guardian and the amount will be added to the next invoice.

Who are your drum tutors?

We currently have five drum teachers on our music tuition team: Chris, Jon, Matt, Louis, and Oscar. Each has a wealth of drum-playing experience, and are inspiring teachers; all Discover & Be tutors are DBS checked. You can read more about each of our drumming tutors on the Music Tutors page.

ALL Discover and Be tutors are DBS/CRB checked.
