Introducing... Jo Osborne, academic tutor
/Jo is a true Sussex girl - she grew up in Cuckfield, West Sussex and attended local schools and sixth-form college before embarking on a teaching degree at the University of Brighton. Jo discovered she wanted to become a teacher after all the fun she had working with children at church; singing songs, playing games, making things and learning together.
“I think I learnt just as much from the children, as they did from me… maybe even more!”
Jo has more than 10 years experience in the teaching profession. She has taught in a variety of schools across Sussex, spanning primary into Key Stage 3 (lower secondary). Jo decided to work part-time following the arrival of her daughter, Amélie.
“Children grow up so fast and I wanted to be able to spend as much time with Amélie as possible. I love being her mum and I love our days together.”
A regular mummy at our Discover and Be messy play, music and movement sessions, Jo jumped at the chance to join the academic tutoring team as she loves our creative and hands-on approach to teaching and learning.
Sheila Datoo, co-founder of Discover and Be, knew that Jo would fit in well with the company's ethos:“Watching Jo interact imaginatively and creatively with her daughter, Amélie as well as with many other children in our sessions, we knew she would be a valuable addition to the Discover and Be team.”
Jo is creative outside the classroom as well as in, enjoying sewing, crafting, camping and baking (she’s good – we’ve tried it!). Jo loves being outdoors whatever the weather - be it sunny beach days or muddy welly walks in the woods. Jo relishes the opportunity to take on more Discover and Be pupils over the coming months.
Jo specialises in academic tutoring for primary aged children in Sussex. If you'd like to find out about tutoring or any other aspect of Discover and Be's work, please get in touch.
