Barrie, Academic Tutor
Barrie has worked both in education and the corporate world. Having taught for nearly a decade in schools in Brighton, he focused on computing and then embarked on a career as an IT consultant, offering services to global companies, travelling across the world. He led a team of support technicians based in Malaysia, offering 24x7 global support. After enjoying over 20 years in this corporate world, he returned to teaching and has been working part time in primary schools for the last 12 years as an IT lead and classroom teacher. In that time, he has been offering private tutoring to both KS2 and GCSE students, tending to focus on maths (Foundation, Higher and Further levels).
Using the skills acquired as an IT consultant, he loves creating professional quality, inspiring lesson content, which he successfully markets world wide via various teacher marketplaces. His tutoring style is relaxed and patient and he strives to make the sessions focused and, more than anything, fun. He believes that being tutored in advance in maths topics enables students to understand concepts more easily in lessons, therefore feel more confident in front of their peers, and start to see maths as enjoyable.
Barrie’s interests are going to the gym regularly, visiting National Trust properties, playing games such as Backgammon and Canasta, walking and watching documentaries (particularly on history and AI).
